SAVIR Awards and Board Nominations are an opportunity to recognize the researchers, practitioners, mentors, advocates, communicators, and leaders whose work is advancing violence and injury prevention—and to help shape SAVIR’s future leadership.

Know someone whose contributions deserve recognition? Nominate them for a SAVIR award. Interested in helping guide SAVIR’s work and strategic direction? Consider nominating yourself or a colleague for the SAVIR Board of Directors.

Nominations for all awards and board seats are due October 20, 2026.

Recognize Excellence in Violence and Injury Prevention

SAVIR offers awards recognizing outstanding contributions to research, service, mentorship, advocacy, communication, and conference presentations.

Awards include:

SAVIR Excellence in Violence or Injury Prevention Science Award – recognizing a mid-career to senior scientist whose leadership, research, and service have advanced violence and injury prevention science.

SAVIR Early Career Excellence Award – recognizing an early-career scientist whose innovative and scholarly contributions have the potential for substantial influence in the field.

SAVIR Outstanding Service Award – recognizing distinguished service to SAVIR over an extended period.

SAVIR Excellence in Mentorship Award – honoring exceptional commitment to mentoring students, early-career professionals, and colleagues.

SAVIR Excellence in Advocacy Award – recognizing outstanding leadership in advocacy, policy, and research translation.

SAVIR Excellence in Communication and Dissemination Award – recognizing excellence in translating complex ideas into accessible, impactful communications that engage diverse audiences and promote evidence-based action.

Nominate a SAVIR Board Member

SAVIR is seeking nominations for two Board positions to help guide the organization’s strategic direction, strengthen its impact, and advance our mission to promote high-quality research in violence and injury prevention and control. Board members serve three-year staggered terms beginning April 1, 2027, with a maximum of two consecutive full terms.

General Board Member - This member will contribute to SAVIR’s strategic planning, organizational governance, financial stewardship, fundraising and development, and engagement with members and partners across the field

General Board Member – Journal Liaison - This role will serve a concurrent term on the SAVIR Board of Directors and represent SAVIR on the Editorial Board for Injury Prevention. In addition to the core responsibilities of a SAVIR Board member, the Journal Liaison will help strengthen the relationship between SAVIR and Injury Prevention, including sourcing four articles per year for SAVIR’s section in the journal.

Both positions offer an opportunity to contribute expertise and perspectives to SAVIR’s leadership while helping shape the future of the organization and the broader injury and violence prevention research community.
